If you want to make this particular comic fan happy, you can do worse than announcing that Mark Waid will be writing a new DC Comics series.
If you want to make me really happy, announce that he’s writing two new DC Comics series.
If you want to make me really, really happy, make sure one of those series involves Superman.
So yes, today is a good day, as DC have announced through an exclusive with CBR that Waid will team up with artist Emanuela Lupacchino on a World’s Finest: Teen Titans spinoff book. The World’s Finest series Waid headlines with Dan Mora and Tamra Bonvillain is far and away the best book being published at DC right now, and a lot of its appeal comes from the way Waid writes Robin. His take on Dick Grayson as the Boy Wonder is both fresh and familiar, with a pitch-perfect voice for the teen hero that is a nice balance of confidence and naivete. Throw the classic Teen Titans lineup into the mix and baby, you got a stew going.
The series seems to following in the tone of World’s Finest, promising lots of adventure and fun as the Teen Titans set out to help people around the globe while also trying to keep themselves in check, what with their celebrity status and all.
I’m sure they’ll be level-headed and reasonable about everything. It’ll be fine.

But wait, there’s more!
Also announced at CBR, Waid will write a Superman miniseries for DC’s Black Label imprint, titled Superman: The Last Days of Lex Luthor. Promising emotional depth and a philosophical exploration of the differences between Superman and his greatest foe, all while the Man of Steel tries to prevent Luthor’s death. It sounds heavy, yet still taps into the most appealing thing about Superman: his willingness to do the right thing, for anyone.
Here’s the cover for the first issue, as well as an interior page from artist Bryan Hitch. Waid also sat down with CBR for an interview to discuss both books, so check that out here.
World’s Finest: Teen Titans #1 will hit comic shops and digital retailers on July 11, with Superman: The Last Days of Lex Luthor #1 following on July 25.
