It seems that the door is not yet closed for future Shazam films according to director David F. Sandberg.
DC films coming out in 2023 are in an odd space. All four films were approved under previous leadership, and with a new plan having already been announced for a reboot of the DC Universe, the question has been if these films even matter. According to Shazam: Fury of the Gods director David F. Sandberg, his new film does for sure.
Asked on Twitter by a user:
“Hey David, I don’t feel like watching the movie because of the drama happening around DC studios.
It is just killing the vibe of the film. There is a lot of uncertainty about DC’s Future.
Just give us an answer, whether #Shazam will have a role in future #DCU.”
Sandberg replied:
He definitely won’t if people don’t go see the movie. What I’ve been told is that there’s nothing in the Shazam films that contradict the future plans for DC. So the possibility for more Shazam is there and if that’s what you want your best bet is to go see the film.
One has to imagine this would be very much the same scenario for the upcoming Blue Beetle movie. The Flash and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom we’ll just have to wait and see.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods release is set for March 17, 2023.
