James Gunn “Offers” Chris Pratt Role of Krypto in “Superman: Legacy”

Director James Gunn and Chris Pratt recently sat down with the Toronto Sun to discuss the release of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”. During the course of the interview, Gunn jokingly offered Pratt the role of Krypto the Superdog in “Superman: Legacy”.
“I was hoping I could cast you as Krypto the Superdog,” stated Gunn. “You could do motion capture on set and walk around on your hands and knees, but you can’t talk.”
Following a brief back and forth, Pratt said, “So, it sounds like there’s going to be a character called Krypto in Superman — breaking news.” Interviewer Mark Daniell then jumped in with, “That’s a scoop for me,” to which Gunn replied, “It is a scoop, I guess, huh?” Pratt then joked, “Way to go. You’re fired. Back to Marvel.”
While the offer of the Krypto role to Pratt appears to have been all in jest, it is still possible that Gunn may have not been entirely joking. After all, the filmaker did recently confirm that at least one “Guardians of the Galaxy” cast member would be featured in “Superman: Legacy”.
The only other confirmed role in the film at this point other than Superman is that of Daily Planet photographer Jimmy Olsen although no actor has been cast in either role at this time.
Currently, “Superman: Legacy” is in pre-production ahead of principal photography which is anticipated to begin later this year or in early 2024. The film is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
