According to a new report, screenwriter and director Mike Flanagan wants a crack at bringing Clayface to movie theaters everywhere.
Multiple sources speaking with Deadline report that Flanagan has had a meeting with DC Studios co-chairs James Gunn and Peter Safran and pitched them on a Clayface movie. No greenlight has been given as of yet. The sources went on to say that the version of the character pitched for the story would not necessarily be a villain.
While the sources make this clear this pitch is unrelated to The Batman: Part II, other sources are saying that Clayface has existed in various drafts of the scripts for Matt Reeves’ sequel. Nothing is definite as of yet.
Flanagan, who directed the Stephen King adaptation Doctor Sleep, has not been quiet about his passion for Clayface. He has stated before that he envisions a film based on the long-time Batman villain as a “standalone….horror/thriller/tragedy.”
While Clayface has appeared in animated form and video games many times over, he has never made the jump to a live-action theatrical film. We’ll have to wait and see if anything comes of these talks, but it seems that the character may finally be heading toward his time in the spotlight.
