It seems that we may have to wait a bit longer than we first thought to see the new The Penguin series on HBO Max.
According to a report from Deadline, The Penguin has shut down production until the Writers Guild of America strike comes to an end. Filming has already been halted on multiple occasions due to WGA East picketers protesting at various filming locations.
As to how long the strike may last, industry analysts have indicated that they would not be surprised to see it last through the end of 2023.
The series will see Colin Farrell reprising his role as Oswald Cobblepot, and Cristin Milioti has joined the cast as Sofia Falcone. Clancy Brown joined as Salvatore Maroni.
Carmen Ejogo (Fantastic Beasts, Alien: Covenant), Francois Chau (Lost, The Expanse), and David H. Holmes (Hulu’s High Fidelity) were the most recent additions to the cast, all in unknown roles.
Prior to them signing on, the last new additions announced in March included Theo Rossi (Luke Cage, Army of the Dead), James Madio, and Scott Cohen have all been added in unannounced roles. Also joining the cast will be Michael Zegan in an unknown role, but sources speaking with Variety indicate he will be playing Alberto Falcone.
Craig Zobel (The Mare of Easttown) has signed on to direct the first two episodes of The Penguin. He will also be serving as an executive producer on the project.
The Penguin project has been discussed for some time and was ordered straight to series shortly after the premiere of The Batman in March 2021.
