Hello everyone and welcome back to Upcoming Comics! We are officially into July and with it, the start of DC’s latest event: Knight Terrors! In fact, it’s Knight Terrors titles across the board this week, with a few exceptions tucked down in Beyond the Bat. I’ve already mentioned my general fatigue regarding long events like this, but with the books coming out at last we’ll finally get to see just what is in store for each title, and it’s possible it’ll win me over. Horror seems to be a big thing with the patrons at the library where I’m working. A ton of kids have been asking for, and reading, everything we have that is even remotely spooky. So much so that we created a digital display for “Summer of Screams” so there might be something to DC getting scary in summer! Let’s take a look and see.
Upcoming Comics
Knight Terrors: Batman #1
Ever since becoming Batman, Bruce Wayne has been a creature of the night. He transformed himself into a symbol that gave the criminals of Gotham nightmares. But now, trapped in the Nightmare Realm, Bruce is stalked by the horror he’s created! Can he escape before his own nightmares pull him deeper into the darkness?

- Colors By: Tomeu Morey, Rex Lokus
- Cover By: Guillem March, Tomeu Morey
Thoughts: It feels a little unfair to say that we’ve seen Bruce face his own nightmares a hundred times before, but it is also true. That said, I do like Williamson on Batman titles, so I wouldn’t mind checking this out.

Knight Terrors: First Blood #1
When Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman find the body of one of their earliest enemies inside the Hall of Justice, their investigation takes them past the land of the living, beyond the land of the dead, and directly to a new villain called Insomnia…who uses his powers to engulf every single hero and villain in their own dark and twisted nightmares. The only way to save the world is to call for the help of an unlikely hero-Deadman! The thrills and chills of Knight Terrors are brought to the DC Universe by DC architect and superstar writer Joshua Williamson with horrific art by comics legend Howard Porter!

Thoughts: This is the issue to look to if you want to see the greater story of what Knight Terrors is up to, and where all this seems to stem out of. It’s kind of interesting that it’s every hero and villain, not the whole world being engulfed in these terrors though.

Knight Terrors: Joker #1
The Joker’s worst nightmare becomes a reality: he’s got a day job! How will he handle meetings that could have been emails?! Why did management cancel “bring your child to work” day?! Who will want to make small talk at the coffee machine?! What is Alexis going to pick for lunch?! And who is the masked madman terrorizing Gotham at night?!

- Pencils & Inks By: Stefano Raffaele
- Cover By: Romulo Fajardo, Stefano Raffaele
Thoughts: Okay, it’s kind of funny to see Joker’s worst nightmare as being him having a normal boring job and I am interested despite the fact that I am rarely interested in Joker tales.

Knight Terrors: Poison Ivy #1
It’s another absolutely gorgeous and serene day in Pamela Isley’s lovely little new neighborhood! Everything and everyone here is wall-to-wall smiles! Nothing ever goes wrong, everyone is friends, and best of all, it’s made just for Ivy with lots and lots of love. Now, Pammy, don’t frown, don’t fuss, and don’t fret-just because this wasn’t what you thought you wanted, that doesn’t mean it won’t fit you like a glove! Now have some pie, dear, don’t think too hard, and just smile.

- Colors By: Arif Prianto
- Cover By: Jessica Fong
Thoughts: I can see the appeal in writing a horror story about a way too normal life, one that dosen’t quite fit, and pushes the bounds of what feels right into the frightening and absurd. I don’t know how well it would fit a Poison Ivy book, but we’ll see.

Knight Terrors: Black Adam #1
Black Adam is defending Kahndaq from a border assault when the deadly nightmare wave sweeps the planet, putting all men, women, and children into the nightmare realm…including the fierce monarch! But what are his deepest, darkest nightmares? What horror can put fear into the heart of Black Adam?! Knight Terrors begins!

Beyond the Bat
Hello everyone and welcome to Beyond the Bat! Here we’ll look at titles outside of Batman, and at least this week, those also mostly outside of the Knight Terrors event. So if you’re looking for something not steeped in horror this might be the place to check out this week!
Ratings
Most Excited: Knight Terrors: Batman #1- Yes the plot has been done, but like I’ve mentioned I enjoy Williamson on Batman, and so I’m interested to see what he does here.
Least Excited: Knight Terrors: Poison Ivy #1- Don’t get me wrong, this could be an excellent comic, but I’m just not sure how the premise fits Ivy as a character and that has me hesitant over it.
Wild Card: Knight Terrors: Joker #1- Depending on where it goes I think it could be a really interesting and odd comic.
And that’s all for this week’s Upcoming Comics! Let us know what you’re looking forward to, skipping, and just how you feel about this month’s onslaught of Knight Terrors themed titles! Until then, see you in the comments!
