Hello everyone and welcome back to Upcoming Comics! It’s solicit time again for DC’s titles, and August looks packed to the gills. Particularly with Knight Terrors titles, taking over pretty much the whole month. While some people might be excited about this I’m finding myself not quite looking forward to it. I’m not a fan of horror, and Knight Terrors looks to be filled to the brim with tales tailor made to spook and scare. It’s one part of a longer Knight Terrors publishing line, but the sheer amount of it makes August look almost like an event itself.
Generally I’ve found myself put out a little bit by month long thematic takeovers. Whether that be the newest idea of Knight Terrors or previous ones like Future State or Endless Winter. While it can be exciting to build up hype about a large event or universe spanning adventure, it can also feel a little alienating to readers either disinterested in the content, or unwilling to dive into the sheer number of titles associated with the event. Thoughts: Giving Nightwing magic sounds like it could be a lot of fun! Especially when they’re diving deep into a place that might require it.

Thoughts: While I enjoy team-up adventures, I have to wonder if this is the kind of story to tell as the series nears its end.

Harley Quinn #30
Here I am in the midst of a veritable midlife extradimensional existential crisis of epic proportions, and if that’s not bad enough…I got a giant, bloodthirsty, killer anthropo-whatsit rabbit man with a big ol’ carrot-shaped axe to grind after me. Good thing I got my hyena spiritual advisors, Bud and Lou, to guide me on this fiendish foray into a frenzy of ferocious furballs. Plus: the introduction of my very own cosmic workout gear that is in no way an infringement on the Flash’s intellectual property. Also, in this month’s In-Continuity Dreams of Harley Quinn, we’ve cooked up a real doozy for ya! It’s got swords, armor, fair maidens, and more side quests than you can shake your tuchus at!

Thoughts: This book keeps getting delayed for one reason or another, take last week for instance, everything I saw told me it was releasing then. And yet, it got shifted. Inconsistent publishing dates can make it hard to want to get invested in a title like this.

Beyond the Bat
Welcome back to Beyond the Bat! Here we take a look at the rest of the titles DC is publishing this week, not totally Batman related. This week’s list is more populous than our review list, with some steady series on it. City Boy also gets its number one issue this week, spinning out of the Lazarus Planet event, and looks to be an interesting title!
Ratings
Most Excited: Nightwing #104- Adventures in hell with magic could be a lot of fun as long as it all works out right.
Least Excited: Tim Drake: Robin #9- Last issue left me baffled in a number of ways, and I’m not sure how much clearer those questions will get here.
Wild Card: City Boy #1- While not technically on our review list, I wanted to put this one here as a title I found interesting! I think the idea of City Boy’s powers is an interesting one that could make for a city spanning story and explore a variety of ideas connected with the major locations in DC comics.
