Is It Good?
The Flash #793 is fun and the best issue in the event so far. Jeremy Adams shines when he lets the Flash family do what they do best – work together. When the Flash family uses their brains, courage, and speed to stop the Fraction, you know you’re in for a good time.
When last we left the Speedster Squad (TM pending), Bart and Wallace found another speedster sued as a “battery” during their unauthorized recon mission inside the Fraction’s fortress. Now, we learn where the “battery” came from, how the Fraction uses the Speed Force, and how it all comes together in a plan to win the day. As the man says – “I love it when a plan comes together.”
Again, this issue shines because it’s all about the Flashes coming together, coming up with a plan, and delivering quick-witted (*heh*) fun in a montage that shows you that even in their darkest moments, the Flashes love being fast.
Adams’s pacing is excellent (of course), and the dialog between the family members feels wholesome, supportive, and authentic. Once the plan goes into effect, the action will have you on the edge of your seat.
Cruz, Dias, and Guerrero deliver the goods with bright, energy-packed action on nearly every page. Better still, the still moments (such as a sorrowful moment between Barry and Wally discussing Iris’s “death”) nail the quiet, emotional energy needed to make the scenes work. Kudos to the art team for a job well done.
